Book Buddies

Once kids progress beyond early elementary school, they are expected to read independently for information in every subject. Reading is the key to learning - in school and for life.

Does your child need practice reading aloud?
Try Book Buddies with the Library now available virtually and in-person.

Virtual Book Buddies allows kids to read aloud to teens without having to leave home! Kids will be matched with teen volunteers and spend 30-45 minutes each week reading aloud on Zoom during the 6-week series. Recommended for students who have completed Kindergarten through 4th grade, though readers of any grade level looking for reading practice are welcome to apply.

Read aloud virtual sessions will take place each Monday night at 6:30 pm from January 31 - March 7.

An in-person option is now available for Book Buddies! Kids will be matched with teen volunteers and spend 25 minutes each week reading aloud to teens at the Spencer Road Branch (you must register for one of the locations - walk-ins will not be accepted for these events).

Spencer Road Branch: Tuesdays, Feb. 1-8, 2022

Are you a teen who is interested in helping kids learn to enjoy reading?

Teens must attend training and commit to all weekly sessions for the entire 6-week period. Teens will earn 20 volunteer hour credits.

Teens ages 12-18 may apply. Applications are due January 16.
