Planned Giving

What is Planned Giving?

Planned Giving is a systematic effort to identify and cultivate a person for the purpose of generating a major gift that integrates the prospect’s plans for lifetime or testamentary giving.  A planned gift has tax implications and is often transmitted through a legal document, such as a Will or a Trust.

Planned Giving Organizations

American College of Trust and Estate Counsel -
ACTEC is a professional association of lawyers who are experienced in the preparation of wills and trusts; estate planning; probate procedure and administration of trusts and estates of decedents, minors and incompetents. Website contains FAQ's on estate planning, living wills, probate, and more.

American Council on Gift Annuities (ACGA) -
A nonprofit organization formed for the purpose of providing educational and other services to American charities regarding gift annuities and other forms of planned gifts. Website contains state regulations, suggested annuity rates, and FAQs.

Canadian Association of Gift Planners -
Gift planner's professional organization in Canada.

Leave A Legacy -
The National campaign lead by the National Committee on Planned Giving to educate and encourage the public to include charitable donations in their estate planning.

National Association of Charitable Gift Planners -
Website covers topics such as: Changing "No" to "Yes": Overcoming Common Obstacles to Planned Giving, Ethics and Standards, Government Regulations; and is a network organization for fundraising professionals. The name of the association changed from Partnership for Philanthropic Planning in October 2016.
